More than 50 first ladies signed letters asking TV Land executives to bring back Cedric The Entertainer’s new series, “The Soul Man”, for a second season.
“It’s important that we support programming that reflects our community in a positive light and for that reason not only did I sign the petition but am urging others to sign as well,” said Denise Hunter, first lady of First A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles.
The series—following an R&B superstar-turned-minister who was at the top of the music charts when he got “the calling” and decided to become a preacher in his father’s church—also stars Niecy Nash and debuted with the second highest ratings in the network’s history. But with the dispute between Viacom and Direct TV leaving a great deal of subscribers without the ability to tune in, the show’s ratings took a nose dive.
WIth TV Land not yet having made a final decision as to whether or not it will renew the sitcom, Cedric The Entertainer has decided to become proactive, taking to the airwaves to urge that fans and supporters petition the powers that be to bring the show back. The letter below was posted on his Facebook page as a sample template as the comedian urged that fans and viewers email it to Rachel.Sandler@tvland.com for the greatest impact:
Dear TV Land (re: The Soul Man):
We love “The Soul Man”! We are writing to you in hopes that our letter of support will encourage you to bring “The Soul Man” back to TV Land for another season.
After watching the debut of “The Soul Man” in June, we have become regular viewers fans of that show and the TV Land network enjoying so much of your other programming such as “Hot in Cleveland” as well as the classic shows. It’s so refreshing to do “one-stop-shopping” at your network for quality family programming.
Please hear our voices and bring “The Soul Man” back to TV Land! Thank you for your kind consideration.
